When managing a property for specific wildlife, your land requires specific habitat. Every species- be they birds, mammals, pollinators, or reptile/amphibian, need food, water, and shelter. Cutting in bedding thickets for deer, installing drumming logs for ruffed grouse and brush piles for rabbits, building nesting boxes for blue birds and flying squirrels, strut zones for turkeys, or planting diverse native wildflowers and warm season grasses for pollinators can be valuable additions to a property that give you immediate and long-term results. By understanding what species a landowner wants and what habitat the land can support, we can help install the right habitat for the specific needs of the wildlife on your land. Planning, knowledge, and active management are vital components to any property's long-term health. After meeting with the landowner to talk about priorities, we conduct a comprehensive site evaluation to gain a full understanding of each property's natural resources. We believe in considering the property as a whole, managing every acre possible, taking into consideration its history and use over time, current condition, its ideal natural state and the goals of the landowner. By considering all of these factors and more, we develop a custom plan for the property, designed to reach the landowner's objectives in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible. The ideal scenario for every recreational property is to manage healthy native ecosystems by using natural disturbance. But to get to that maintenance phase, a property usually needs some intensive management up front to deal with all the unnatural disturbance of the past 250 years. Invasive species cost landowners millions of dollars in damage every year. You may not even know what Bush Honeysuckle, Autumn Olive or Oriental Bittersweet are but, they do not belong in our fields and woodlands and can destroy native plant communities as well as wildlife and monetary value of a property. By ridding our properties of invasives and restoring a diverse mosaic of native forests, prairies, and shrub-lands to the landscape we can maximize the potential of a property.

David grew up in Ohio and spent every spare minute he had in the outdoors. But, just like his parents and grandparents before, duty called and he joined the military after college. After serving eight years, honorably, in the U.S. Army, he medically retired in 2018. The GI bill then allowed him to finally pursue his passion- Wildlife Management. Armed with a degree in Wildlife Conservation and years of experience managing his own farm in Southern Ohio primarily for wildlife, David began volunteering his time helping friends, family, and neighbors with their habitat needs. After seeing a need for professionals in the industry, David brought the idea to his wife, and just months after the birth of their son, he added: Owner -Cornerstone Habitat to his resume. This business is truly his passion, and though he comes home bruised, bloody, and exhausted every day, he loves what he does because the work matters. The reason David puts his boots on every day is to make this region better for wildlife and more productive for each landowner he is working for. Give us a call, he’d love to assist you with your property next.
